Nordic Neighbours - A perfect trip to Scandinavia
Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a city that mixes modern design with history. It offers a great blend of culture, food, and style. From the colourful buildings of Nyhavn, to cozy cafes with delicious pastries, the city has something for everyone.
Start your Copenhagen weekend trip at the iconic Nyhavn. Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds. This scenic area, dating back to the 17th century, was once home to writer Hans Christian Andersen. Today, Nyhavn features hotels, restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops, but a stroll through this lively area is still a must.
My friends and I went on a scenic run through Copenhagen, taking in some beautiful views along the way. We eventually found ourselves at Reffen food market, a lively spot featuring over 50 food stall start-ups. Reffen also offers fantastic, front-row views of Copenhagen's harbour.
Malmo
Copenhagen and Malmö are linked by the mighty Øresund Bridge, famously featured in the Nordic Noir series The Bridge. Spanning 8 km across the Øresund Strait, it makes Malmö one of the easiest day trips from Copenhagen. You can travel by train, bus, or a quick 10-minute drive.
The train is the fastest option, taking just 35 minutes with tickets starting at €11. Trains run every 30 minutes during the day and every hour from midnight to 5 a.m., making it convenient for a day trip with a night out in Copenhagen and a stay in Malmö’s affordable accommodations.
The route is popular, with many Danes commuting daily from Malmö to Copenhagen. Remember to carry your passport, as border inspections are common upon arrival in Sweden.
Unfortunately, I wasn't in Malmo for long. However I managed to get myself a snowglobe to add to the collection!
